Your Weekend Guide To Bull City & Beyond: September 16th – 18th

CenterFest – Saturday, 10am-6pm and Sunday, 11am-5pm – After a two-year hiatus, Durham Arts Council brings the long-standing festival back to downtown, showcasing a variety of juried visual artists from across the country and local entertainers. Shop ceramics, paintings, photography, jewelry and more; watch unique street performers, musicians and dancers; visit the Creative Kids Zone; grab a snack from food vendors; and learn more about Durham’s nonprofit and government services.

Jambalaya Soul Slam – Saturday, 10:30am-1pm – Enjoy original poetry and brunch during the Triangle’s longest running poetry event. Wordsmiths will compete for $250 in cash prizes at the Hayti Heritage Center.

Golden Belt 2022 Block Party – Saturday, 3-9pm – Golden Belt Campus hosts its annual celebration featuring local vendors, artists and music from DJ JDmL and Raleigh-based Ricardo Diquez & The Tropic Orchestra. Community resources and organizations including the Durham Tech Community Health LabCrayons2CalculatorsHope Animal Rescue and Book Harvest will be on-site. 

The Glass Jug Beer Lab’s Oktoberfest – Through Saturday – Celebrate the brewery’s eighth anniversary with live music, limited-edition brews and a stein-hoisting competition with prizes. Food trucks Mr. Wingz & Mrs. Thingz, El Jefecito and Kat-n-Around Authentic German Food offer bites while Raleigh’s Little German Band and Dancers performs. 

Hog Day
This two-day event in downtown Hillsborough will include contests, food vendors, a parade of pigs, live music, kids activities, an antique car show and a 5K run. The event is led entirely by volunteers and will raise money for community projects, programs and nonprofits that benefit the youth of Orange County.

Sculpture in the Garden 
The 34th annual Sculpture in the Garden exhibit opens at the North Carolina Botanical Garden on Sunday and will run through the first Sunday of December. The exhibit highlights the work of local artists and allows visitors to experience the natural word and its relationship with art. A preview party will be held on Saturday from 4:30-6:30 p.m. with an opportunity to meet the artists, view the sculptures and enjoy beverages and hors d’oeuvres. Registration is closed for the preview party, but walk-up registration will be available on-site.
