Memorial Day Weekend in The Triangle

Walk for the Animals – Saturday, 9am-1pm – Bring your furry friend to Duke University’s East Campus Lawn for a 1.5-mile walk to benefit the Animal Protection Society of Durham, which cares for nearly 4,000 animals annually. Enter your pooch in pet contests; watch agility demonstrations; visit the dozens of vendors, from doggy day cares to vets and other animal-supportive businesses; meet adoptable dogs; and more.

Annual Memorial Day Remembrance Event – Saturday, 10am-4pm – Join military historians at Bennett Place Historic Site as they share the story behind how this holiday first came to be. The program honors soldiers from all time periods throughout our nation’s history. 

Mystic Memorial Day – Saturday, noon-6pm – Celebrate the holiday at Mystic Farm Distillery with three bands, fire dancers, an apple pie-eating contest, bouncy house, food trucks and more. Be sure to bring a chair or blanket!

Taste of Soul NC – Saturday, 3-8pm – Make your way over to Durham Central Park for the ultimate cookout. Grab eats from some of the best food trucks in the area while enjoying card games, a live DJ and other performances. There will be a bouncy house for the kids as well as a small vendors market.

Improv and Variety Show 
The ArtsCenter presents comedian Danny Canoe for a longform improv performance alongside special guest, Jane Wilson, from 8-9:30 p.m. Opening the night is a variety show featuring stand-up comedy, musicians and other various artists from North Carolina and beyond. Entertainment is geared toward adults, with beer, wine and seltzer available at the bar.

Movie in the Park
Head down to the field at Central Recreation Center for a free showing of “PAW Patrol: The Movie” at 8:30 p.m. Food and beverages will be available for purchase on-site, and families are encouraged to bring their own blankets and lawn chairs.
