Your Weekend Guide: January 6th – 8th

‘Winter Wonders:’ Gallery Members Exhibit – Through February 11 – 5 Points Gallery opens this exhibition featuring new works from local artists across a range of mediums including sculpture, mixed media, glass and painting. These works will be on display through Feb. 11.

‘Tina: The Tina Turner Musical’ – Thursday, 7:30pm; Friday, 8pm; and Saturday, 2pm and 8pm – The Durham Performing Arts Center hosts the touring show, which celebrates the prolific singer and 12-time Grammy Award winner’s greatest achievements throughout her career as well as her resilience and triumph over the hurdles of racism, sexism and ageism. The performance features “It’s Gonna Work Out Fine,” “Let’s Stay Together,” “Open Arms” and more of Tina’s most beloved songs.

Wassail and Winery Tour
On Saturday at 5 p.m., Botanist & Barrel will host a wassail – a traditional orchard-blessing ceremony – with singalongs, mulled cider flights, farm pizza and snacks by the fire. On Sunday, get a behind-the-scenes tour of the cidery and winery, plus a walk through the blueberry farm, with one of Botanist &Barrel’s experts.

The Carrboro Really Really Free Market
This monthly market is really, really free – bring what you want to give away, and take home anything you find useful. This month, folks may be specifically looking for gently used toys, cold weather accessories, blankets and rain boots. Head to the Carrboro Town Commons from 2-4 p.m. to hunt for new treasures while enjoying live music and warm beverages.

Lowell Ringel Trio – Saturday, 8pm – Chapel Hill’s Lowell Ringel, and award-winning bassist, composer and educator, performs with the other members of the Lowell Ringel Trio (pianist Alex Brown and drummer Lucas Apostoleris) at The Durham Jazz Workshop’s Sharp 9 Gallery.

Hammered Trivia with Thor – Sunday, 2-4pm – Join Durty Bull Brewing Company for a lively round of trivia while you sip on a brew, mimosa or slushie.
