Your Weekend Guide To Bull City and Beyond: August 12th – 14th

OutSouth Queer Film Festival – Thursday-Sunday – The Carolina Theatre hosts the second-largest LGBTQ+ film festival in the Southeast. This celebration of queer lives returns to an in-person format this year and features a diverse array of short films, documentaries and feature-length films. The festival has attracted thousands of attendees every year since it began in 1995.

Taste of Soul NC – Saturday, 3-8pm – Enjoy seafood from local food trucks including Bull City Eatery and R&J’s Fish, Wings & Things while you shop from local merchants, jam out to a DJ and more during this food festival at Durham Central Park. Don’t forget your blanket or lawn chair. 

Jazz on the Mill – Saturday, 6:30-9pm – Head to The Mill Stage at Golden Belt Campus for a performance by The Lao Tizer Quartet featuring Chieli Minucci during the Vrroom VIP Upclose & Personal jazz series. 

Bach to Bluegrass – Sunday, 2-3pm – This performance at Sarah P. Duke Gardens’ Kirby Horton Hall is Mallarmé Chamber Players’ first appearance at the venue since 2020. Violinists Jaqueline Wolborsky and Anne Leyland, violist Suzanne Rousso and cellist Nate Leyland play through the history of string instruments, from the music of Bach, Beethoven, Antonín Dvořák and more through to traditional bluegrass arranged for quartet by Mark O’Connor.

’s 2022 season kicks off at 7 p.m. in The Forest Theatre. This year’s larger-than-life show is a modern fairytale which explores themes of time, greed and conservation. Arrive early to enjoy a pre-show by singer-songwriter Dawn Landes at 6:20 p.m.

Skywatching: Perseid Meteor Shower at Dorothea Dix Park
Head to Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh for an unobstructed view of the annual Perseid meteor shower on Friday night from 9-11 p.m. The event, hosted by the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center and the Raleigh Astronomy Club, includes opportunities for attendees to view the celestial event through telescopes and enjoy live music from the Triangle Sax Ensemble.
