Your Weekend Guide to Bull City & Beyond: April 12th – 14th, 2024

Library Fest – Thursday through Saturday – Durham County Library hosts this fourth annual community celebration of National Library Week with events that encourage discovery, literacy and connection. This year’s nature theme features keynotes from experts including Leah Thomas, John Francis and Matías Murano. Visit with animals from Piedmont Wildlife Center and Wild Tails NC, create art with Duke Health and much more at this family-friendly festival. 

Sixth Annual New York Cat Film Festival – Thursday, 7:10pm; Saturday, 1pm and 5:10pm; Sunday, 2:20pm, 5:20pm and 6:50pm – Visit the Carolina Theatre for this fun collection of short films – animated, documentary or narrative – all about cats! The films celebrate the roles cats play in our world and their relationships with people. 

AfterHours: Mystery at the Museum – Thursday, 6:30-10pm – Grab your friends and brush up on your detective skills as you attempt to solve this fun and action-packed mystery at the Museum of Life and Science. Search through the museum’s main building for clues in this mostly self-guided adventure, and interact both with your teammates and a cast of characters as you play investigator for the night. Leave the kids at home, this event is for adults 21 and older!

Bull City Pickleball Classic – Friday, 5pm through Sunday, 6pm – Stop by Bethesda Park for a round-robin-style pickleball tournament designed for all ages and skill levels! This family-friendly event will have food, music, entertainment and raffle prizes, and all proceeds from the event benefit the Exchange Family Center, a nonprofit organization that provides free professional counseling to children and families in the Durham area. 

Tie-Dye Shirt Making – Saturday, 11:30am-3:30pm – Get groovy with this tie-dye-shirt-making event at The Glass Jug Beer Lab’s downtown location. Purchase a ticket to receive a white Glass Jug T-shirt, instructions and all the supplies needed to dye your shirt. Pro tie-dye staff will be available for assistance and to answer any questions. 

Food Truck Rodeo – Sunday, noon-4pm – Grab a bite to eat or drink and celebrate the Solar New Year at Durham Central Park! Lao Lao Food Truck serves Laotian food during the celebration, which includes an array of traditional Lao events like dancing, a water blessing, a flower garland activity with The Scrap Exchange and more. There will also be a bounce house for children, face painting and a DJ.
