Third Friday Durham Art Walk & Gallery Crawl – Friday, 6-9pm – The Durham Arts Council opens galleries of new works by various members of the Inter-Latin American Artists Collective and singer Allie Capo performs in the space during the first Third Friday event of the year. Elsewhere, bluegrass musicians Tatiana Hargreaves & Friends perform at Letters Bookshop; you can meet and chat with local artists who produced the paintings, sculptures, glass and more at 5 Points Gallery; Liberty Arts hosts a hands-on glassblowing class during which attendees learn to make colored glass hearts with the help of a professional artist; Andrew Whiteman performs at Golden Belt Campus and violinist Bailey Clemmons plays at Cecy’s Gallery; and so much more!
Girl Scout Cookies and Beer Pairing – Saturday, 11am-10pm – The Glass Jug Beer Lab brings back its popular pairing of flights of cookies and brews at its downtown and RTP locations. At the RTP brewery, choose between a flight of four Glass Jug or guest brewery beers, and at Glass Jug’s downtown taproom, enjoy Glass Jug beers paired with the classic treats we all know and love.
Chili Cook-Off – Saturday, noon-4pm – Mystic Farm and Distillery hosts this competition that’s sure to get heated. To participate, bring about two gallons of chili and an ingredient list to enter into one of three categories: regular, spicy or meatless. Guest tickets include one cocktail and all-you-can-eat chili.
Lunar New Year Celebration – Saturday, 11am – Head to The Fruit to shop from AAPI-owned businesses and enjoy dishes from food trucks Golden K Dog, Lao Lao Food Truck and Southern Fried Lumpia Co. Proceeds benefit North Carolina Asian Americans Together.
Third Saturdays Local Maker and Vintage Market – Saturday, noon-4pm – Durty Bull Brewing Company hosts its first art and vintage market of the year. Discover work by local artists, makers and artisans, as well as unique vintage finds. Enjoy live music by Hillsborough’s Sentimental Johnny and Taxicab Preacher and food from RoHo Sandwich Company.
Swing Dance Party
Join the Triangle Swing Dance Society to learn and practice the art of swing dancing at the Carrboro Century Center. Musical accompaniment is provided by local swing-era band, Keenan McKenzie and the Riffers. The event begins at 8 p.m. with an optional introductory lesson at 7 p.m.
