Your Weekend Guide to Bull City & Beyond: June 7th – 9th, 2024

PLAYlist Concert Series – Friday, 6:30pm – Durham Central Park and WNCU 90.7 FM partner for this free outdoor concert series at DCP’s Pavilion and lawn. Head to the park for food, beer and live music every first Friday from May to October, rain or shine. This weekend, DJ Travis Gales spins his Friday Night Mix to usher in The Magic of African Rhythm’s drumming, singing and dancing performance. 

Beer Garden Comedy Showcase – Friday, 8-10pm – Join The Glass Jug Beer Lab – RTP for a night of uproarious fun at the hands of six quick-witted comedians. Enjoy fresh air and refreshing laughter as you listen to the comedians’ sets with a cold beverage and a meal from food truck Oak City Deli & Grill. 

James Manning (‘Bull Durham’) House Tour – Saturday, 10am-2pm – Preservation Durham, a nonprofit dedicated to protecting Durham’s sense of place, hosts a rare opportunity to explore a piece of Durham history: the circa 1880 James Manning House. Built in the grand Queen Anne architectural style, the house is known for its elegant interior and for its role in the 1988 baseball film, “Bull Durham.

Summer Reading Kickoff – Saturday, noon-1pm – Celebrate a summer of juggling new books with Sammy the Jester’s juggling performance! He will dazzle crowds of all ages at the East Regional Library with his theatrical performances, featuring music, circus acts and interactive storytelling. 

Family Fun Paddle – Sunday, 9-11am – Enjoy the comforts of family and the restorative powers of nature during this interactive paddle. Two Sisters Adventure Company leads a trip beginning at Hickory Hill on Falls Lake, where families will search for birds, turtles and other wildlife as they follow scavenger hunt cards. 

Illuminate Durham Mind-Body-Spirit-Arts Festival – Sunday, 10am-5pm – Delight your senses and explore holistic wellness practices with a day of workshops from Illuminate Festivals at the Durham Armory. Sample products, shop from local artisans and learn more about spiritual wellness practices like crystals, tarot and acupuncture.
