Cinco de Mayo – Friday, noon-11pm – Take your pick of margarita slushies, Mexican amber lager and Mexican pale lager at The Glass Jug Beer Lab. The SmokeHouse Bandits Food Truck will be on-site from 5-8pm.
18th Annual Strawberry Festival – Saturday, 11am-3pm – Enjoy local bands, food, strawberry treats, an inflatable obstacle course and slide, activity booths for kids, a raffle and a silent auction at Old North Durham Park. All proceeds help support the Central Park School for Children’s daily operations, field trips, transportation, educational activities and more. Stop by Motorco Music Hall for an after-party beginning at 4 p.m. and order a strawberry mojito to benefit CPSC!
Greek Festival – Saturday, 11am-9pm and Sunday, 11am-7pm – After a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic, St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church once again hosts this annual event that includes a wide array of Greek food, pastries, beer and wine, plus traditional music, folk dance performances, vendors and a tour of the church. Proceeds from a raffle support Ukrainian relief efforts.
PoweFest – Saturday, 1-5pm – Ten percent of purchases at Durty Bull Brewing Company benefit E.K. Powe Elementary’s PTA during this free, family-friendly event that includes performances by bluegrass trio Half Hog Band, Kidznotes, the Dan Davis Group and E.K. Powe students. A silent auction includes items from local businesses, and all students receive a free raffle ticket to win a fun experience with an E.K. Powe teacher. Enjoy food truck fare and treats from Locopops.
Biking Durham’s Histories – Saturday, 2pm – Cyclists of all levels and ages are welcome to join this 90-minute, educational bike ride led by historian Ernest Dollar through some of downtown’s historically significant sites. Hosted by the Museum of Durham History in partnership with Bike Durham, this free event includes complementary refreshments and bike tune-ups, games and prizes.
West Fest – Sunday, 4-6pm – Gather at Oval Park in Old West Durham for this jovial annual celebration that includes music by Ben Palmer, poems from the Poetry Fox, food truck fare and informational booths from local organizations like Bike Durham, Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association, Durham Literacy Center and others.
