At the Dive In: October Fright Fest Edition – Friday through Sunday, 6-9pm – Celebrate the spooky season all weekend long at Unscripted Durham’s rooftop pool deck turned “dive-in” theater. Enjoy festive scenery, spooky cocktails (including The Witches Brew, The Trick and The Time Warp) and Halloween-inspired snacks while you watch your favorite cult-classic films. Candlelight: Friday the 13th Special – Friday, 7pm or 9pm – Bask in the glow of candles and the music of the Halloween season at this awe-inspiring concert at the Hayti Heritage Center. The Lyricosa String Quartet plays iconic spooky tunes, including songs from “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Beetlejuice,” “Ghostbusters” and more.
Bull City Race Fest and Food Truck Rodeo – Sunday, 7:30am – Lace up your running shoes for the 11th annual race, which begins and ends at the American Tobacco Campus and winds through downtown, Trinity Park and Duke University’s campus. Choose from a half-marathon or 5-mile run, and refuel with a snack from one of several food trucks at the post-race celebration – which also features a beer garden, kids’ zone and live entertainment – at Diamond View Park.
Lower Eno River Discovery Paddle – Sunday, 10:30am – Paddle along the Eno River during this unique, three-hour, out-and-back journey. Explore the hidden creeks and coves, and keep an eye out for the critters that call the river home. Meet at the Eno River Boat Launch.
The Zine Machine Printed Matter Festival – Sunday 11am-5pm – Dive into a rich world of creativity and self-expression at this free, eclectic event at The Fruit that features the work of more than 70 talented vendors with zines, comics, art prints, posters, stickers and more available.
