Your Weekend Guide to Bull City & Beyond: October 21st – 23rd

Click! Photo Festival – Thursday-Sunday – The 10th annual festival celebrates photography with events around the Triangle through the end of the month. This weekend, several receptions coincide with Third Friday Durham events: Visit Through This Lens Gallery for a reception featuring photographers Carl Chiarenza and Avery Danziger’s work from 5:30-8:30pm; Kontek Systems hosts a reception for “Visage,” a collection of self-portraits from more than 80 artists, from 5:30-9pm; the DAG 68th Annual Juried Exhibition takes place from 6-7pm at the Durham Art Guild; an opening for Harlan Campbell’s collection of tintype portraiture, “The Silver Harvest: A History of Now,” takes place at Durham Arts Council’s Semans Gallery from 6-9pm; and DAC also hosts an opening in the Allenton Gallery for “Landscapes of Ancestral Migration,” which includes images by Cindy Waszak Geary taken in Germany, England and the Netherlands, from 6-8pm. 

Move-A-Bull City 2022 – Saturday, 11am-3pm – Enjoy a sunny day out with a 10- or 5-mile bike ride starting and ending at the Golden Belt Campus, or a 1-mile walk that explores the history of the district. Organized to celebrate sustainable transportation, participants can indulge in food, drinks, live music and other activities after the bike ride.

Harvest Fall Celebration – Saturday, noon-8pm – Take a fall-themed self-care day at Serenity Farm in partnership with Da Kine’s Kava. Activities include hiking, yoga, breathing exercises, and kava and vegan meal tastings. The day ends with a bonfire and s’mores. 

Blacktoberfest – Saturday, 2-10pm – Celebrate the interconnectedness of Black culture and craft beer with Black-owned breweries at the third annual festival hosted by Durham Bottling Company. The festival features collaborations among local chefs, restaurants, breweries and more. Try a Blacktoberfest Marzen-style ale with a plate from Dame’s Chicken & Waffles or Zweli’s, among other food vendors.

Bull City Boos Fest – Saturday, 4-10pm – Durham Central Park hosts more than 35 vendors, a kids zone and live music during this festival organized by The Makrs Society. Enjoy 10 wine, cider and beer vendors – including The Glass Jug Beer Lab and Red, White, Bubbly & Brew – live music by Swansgate, face painting and henna artists. Halloween costumes are strongly encouraged. 

2022 Fall Fan Fest – Saturday, 5-7:30pm – The Durham Bulls celebrate their 2022 Triple-A National Championship win during this event at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Wear your favorite Halloween costume and take part in batting practice, snap pictures with championship trophies, meet bat dog Ripken and mascot Wool E. Bull, plus many other family-friendly activities.
