Your Weekend Guide to Bull City & Beyond: September 8th – 11th

Friends of the Durham Library Sale – Friday, 4-7pm, and Saturday, 10am-4pm – Book lovers, take your picks from more than 20,000 books, puzzles and games for sale at Books Among Friends bookstore in Shoppes of Hope Valley. Members enjoy shopping with a 25% discount on Friday, and the store is open to the public on Saturday. Shop the sale online at shopfodlnc.org. All proceeds benefit the Durham County Library.

Oktoberfest – Friday, 6-10pm – Make your way to Hi-Wire Brewing at Golden Belt Campus for beer, bingo, a yodeling contest, stein hoisting, live music from The Little German Band & Dancers and more. 

Movie Night at Durham Central Park – Friday, 7-9:30pm – The Museum of Durham History hosts screenings of “Ratatouille” and “Food Town” under the stars at Durham Central Park. Prior to the films, “Food Town” director David Delaney Mayer will speak about the creation of his documentary, which features six local chefs.

Pooch Plunge – Saturday, 11am-3pm – Bring your furry friends to swim and splash at Hillside Pool the day after Durham’s pools officially close for the season. Durham Parks and Recreation hosts the day of fun in the sun. Canines can cool off from the late-summer heat with a safe dip, but must be accompanied by an adult and up to date on vaccinations.

Triangle Vegfest – Sunday, 11am-5pm – Vegan-friendly businesses convene at Durham Central Park for the seventh annual festival. Enjoy live music, a kids fun zone and tasty treats from local vendors such as Clean Juice Renaissance Village, Epic Vegan Food Truck and Ninth Street Bakery.

Guide Susan Worley with Heart of the Hill Tours will lead a fun and informative insider’s tour of downtown Chapel Hill and the university at 3 p.m. Susan, a Chapel Hill resident since she was 6 years old, has been the Executive Director of Volunteers for Youth since 1988 and earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from UNC.
